Champions League – Wednesday Predictions

Tuesdays Results and Stay@Home Predictions.

Not a great night for Arsenal 3- 1 defeat, will be tough test going to Germany overcoming a 2 goal deficit.  Bayern were efficiently German, a strong team performance.  Bayern looked like a team on a mission, having been in the final 2 out of the last 3 years, losing to Inter 2009/10 and Chelsea last year they look like strong contenders to reach the final for the 3rd time in 4 years.

The only bright spark for Arsenal, the fantastic Jack Wilshire, another fine display in Midfield.  Arsenal will have to fight for 4th position to see Champions League football next season.

AC-Milan-vs-Barcelona

AC Milan – Has been a tough season for AC Milan, they have slowly been climbing the table, currently sitting 3rd behind Juventus and Napoli.

AC have played 25 –  winning 13 – drawn 6 – lost 7, recent form suggests they are finally getting in their stride, last 6 games AC have come away with 4 wins and 2 draws.

While scoring 44 goals so far this season Milan have also been conceding, 31 goals.

Milan struggled in the group stages, finished 2nd behind Malaga who were unbeaten.  Milan finished on 8 points won 2 – drawn 2 – lost 2 – scoring only 7 goals while conceding 6, the lowest amount of goals from a team qualifying.

AC Milan will be without new superstar Mario Balotelli who is cup tied.

AC Milan Last 6 game – gathering moment in the league.

Barcelona – Brilliant, Fantastic, Dream Team, Sensational just a few words to describe Barcelona.

2 draws and 1 defeat in 24 league games an incredible 80 goals scored with only 27 conceded.  They find themselves 12 points clear of 2nd place Atletico Madrid and 16 points ahead of arch rivals Real Madrid.

They have outscored Real Madrid by 20 goals and Atletico by 33, they continue to get better as a team if that is possible.

Barca topped the Champions league group as expected scoring 11 conceding 5, not as impressive as their league form or other teams in the Champions League – A shock defeat against Celtic in a match Barcelona dominated sent shock-waves through Europe.

barca

Messi, Xavi and Iniesta will be a constant threat as they look to dominate.

Barcelona Last 6 games – their 1 defeat this season has come in the last 6, a shock defeat to Real Sociedad. AC Milan upset ?

STAY@HOME’S VIEW

AC Milan will be well organised defensively but they have still been conceding, they are not as impressive going forward as previous AC Milan teams, it is tough to see past a Barcelona win.

Both teams will look to control possession it will come down to who will be the most adventurous and creative with it.

AC Milan will look to play on the counter attack with Barca looking to play in the final 3rd.  Barca will need to stay switched on at the back and stay patient while in possession.

Quarter final stage last year saw a 0-0 score at Milan with Barcelona winning 3-1 at the Nou camp and progressing to the next round.  In 2011 they met in the group stages with 1 draw and Barcelona winning 3-2 at the San Siro.

Galatasaray  – Two great transfer scoops in January with Drogba and Sneijder coming in has given Galatasaray a huge boost.  Drogba scored 5 mins into his league debut, the stage is now set for a Champions League return.  Drogba will be a huge threat.

Galatasaray sit top of the Turkish League with 43 points, in 22 games they have drawn 7 but only lost 3 –  scoring a respectable 42 times while conceding 25.

Galatasaray recovered from a bad start winning their final 3 games to qualify  including a win at the English Giants Manchester United to finish 2nd behind the English team.  Similar to AC Milan, Galatasary managed to qualify with the lowest goals scored, scoring only 7 goals while conceding 6.

Galatasaray last 6 games – Drogba, goal scoring maching back in action.

Schalke – the 2012-2013 season started brightly for the highly rated Schalke under the Guidance for coach Huub Stevens.

In December Stevens was sacked due to a poor run of league form, despite Stevens guiding them to finish top of Group B in the Champions League, finishing above Arsenal, Stevens suffered 4 defeats and 2 draws in his last 6 games it was enough for him to part company with the team at the start of the winter break.

Jens Keller, youth team coach replaced Stevens.  Schalke’s slide down the league has not been halted by the change in manager, 1 win in the last 6 sees Schalke lying in 9th position in the German Bundesliga, a massive 27 points behind leaders Bayern Munich.

Schalke finished top of group B, undefeated with 3 wins and 3 draws – Scoring 10 goals conceding 6, their unbeaten Champions League record will be under threat.

One major boost for Schalke is the return of star striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, however with only 5 goals in the league he needs to find form.

Schalke last 6 games – Huntelaar returns, they still have star quality.

STAY@HOME’S VIEW

Schalke have been struggling of late, changes to the management and injuries have not helped.  Schalke still have star quality and will be a threat.

Galatasary will dominate the home leg, they will be well organised.  Schalke will have to work hard to break down Galatasary.
